The main focus of this training is to examine the importance of engagement in a child's mental health services from their existing supports, such as at school and home. If it takes a village to raise a child, teachers are significant members of that village.

We will discuss the role teachers play in this system and how they are able to support struggling students. School staff are able to be one of the first to recognize when a child is in need of mental health services. School relationships can be a first step in building trust with mental health services. This trust can lead to families believing in the effectiveness of services and better treatment outcomes, including an improvement in school performance. Systemic barriers and family impression of potential barriers to access services have a significant impact on their engagement. In spite of limited training and funding, teachers are often asked to identify and respond to the mental health needs of their students.

The goal of this training is to help build confidence, collaboration, and trust with the process of seeking and engaging with student's mental health treatment.
