SESSION 2 of 2: What can educators do to create trauma-sensitive practices and embed social-emotional learning into their lesson planning?

Understanding trauma and how it impacts students in the K-12 setting can be a challenge. This session will provide an overview of adverse childhood experiences that impact students' ability to be successful in school academically, behaviorally and socially. Participants will engage in discussion around the challenges they face related to student mental health as well as some interventions that can be implemented to create a safe, calm and productive classroom. We will examine how trauma-sensitive practices fit into existing constructs such as PBIS or MTSS. During this workshop, participants will be provided with several resources they can begin to use in their classrooms.
